Default New member looking for a little help with a new engine.

Hi everyone.
I'm a new member here.
I have a 95' Montero SR 3.5 with 113k
I'm in need of a replacement for my engine.
Does anyone know of a good place to find one?
Is it worth replacing?

I believe I spun a bearing.
the engine was over revved and started to sputter and died out.
I tried to start it back up and when the engine did fire up I heard a taping noise.
The fast the rpm are the faster the tapping noise.

Thanks everyone in advance for any help and advice.

Are you having any other symptoms than the tapping noise? If it seems to run well, not smoke and has good oil pressure you should try this before deciding you need a new engine. The problem this fixes sounds very much like a serious engine knock.

Glad to help and even more glad you didn't get hosed for a new engine. When I first heard that noise I also thought the end had come. So it saved me big time as well - what goes around comes around.

BTW, I recently got a factory service manual and the procedure is written there exactly as in the post - so it's not junk science.

In my case the noise started because I let the oil level drop too low and went way too long between changes. Never again!

So keep it well lubed and enjoy driving it!

Oops, I just remembered - even with better attention to oil changes the noise did come back again - once. And the rev procedure fixed it right away once again. That was more than 50K miles ago so if it happens again don't be concerned.

Yeah I just changed the oil today.
Now that I think of it I sea foamed the car before this happened.
I think the sea foam broke loose some sludge and gunk and probably got stuck it the valve thing.
I just got the truck and was doing major tune-up on her.
I'll be on top of all the oil changes.

I pulled my boat out today for some fun on the water and the Monty had no issues pulling the boat.

Thanks again for the help.

'm pretty handy when it comes to cars and boats.
I just need to get the manual for it.

Do you have a hard copy of the manual of do you have it as a PDF format?
If PDF then I would love to get a copy of it.

Mine's a hard copy and specific to the '99 model. There are some posts that talk about on-line versions so try the search function. Here's one that has some info but there are others.

Good luck!
