I can't remember if there's a crossmember under the oil pan on the eclipse or not... If not then it's a simple unbolt, clean the pan and mating surfaces, check the oils pump mesh screen, put the new gasket and a little bit of sealant on and go. Make sure when you do this you allow ample time for the sealant to set before adding oil or it will serve no purpose.

Again depends how the crossmember and oil system are set up. You may need to disconnect the motor mounts and lift the engine to get the oil pan out. May only have to lift it a little bit but you'll have to look at where the likely place the oil pickup is and how much interference there is in the way of geting it out.

I just did this two weeks ago for my turbo oil drain hose, and You need to remove the downpipe and unbolt the crossmembers front and rear bolts you can leave the rubber mount hangin that in the middle, you will not have to jack the motor up and you don't have to remove the oil filter either, and just drop the pan down, the oil pick up hangs about 5" in the deep part of the pan so don't hit that.

i just took my oil pan off of my 99 GS 2 nights ago. i didn't have to take my downpipe completely off but did take the front 2 bolts off, after that it bent enough from the back to get the pan out. i don't know the name of it but i did have to take that long metal piece off that starts in the front by the front motor mount and goes back about 4 ft... i put my jack on the trani to keep it up. after that, just took the bolts off the oil pan and slid it out (did this to replace the gasket). since im always up for leaning new stuff, what is the metal piece that i am doing a terrible job of describing?

lower brace for the motor mounts... or crossmember what ever rings in your ear better.
