well first of all i would make sure thats the problem. Do a compression check and see if any are bad. But the reason its such a long job is because to do it you have to remove the head right off. Then while you have it off there is stuff they will replace (which you should anyway) like the waterpump, timing belt, tensioner, rebuild the head also with all new seals. So thats why. But make sure thats your problem.

all true, but this is actually a minimum. this is all assuming that you haven't hurt anything in the process of blowing the head gasket there are all sorts of problems you can cause but doing this... most comonly is warping the head if you are overheating, i'm not really sure about the others. really not trying to scare you here lol just warning you. for the price of replacing a head gasket at a shop, you could sell your engine ( you won't get much for it but it's better than nothing ) and put it towards a new engine off of ebay or something. i think they sell remanufactured ones for like 1100. keep us posted

well if he hasnt seen any problems besides some oil on the spark plugs then i dont think he got too many problems. My suggestion would be what i said. Do an easy compression check on the cylinders. Check your oil cap for white gunk. Figure out the problem first. Then ask around shops and see what they would charge.
