Reinstalling hydraulic lifters 1997 Eclipse 2.0 420A Chrysler engine
Putting things back together after blown gasket, and machining the head back to flat.
Time has come to to reinstall the hydraulic liters.
Came across a remark somewhere (wish I had trapped it for citation) to the effect one could tell if the liters might need to be refilled if they pushed in with resistance only half way. Then they needed oil. Refill'em. ???.
Like to know how to add oil when there's but small (maybe one mm diam) hole! The remark seemed also to indicate the lifter could be compressed to check if oil was need. Maybe holding it under while letting it expand would suck in some oil? Must have been full because I couldn't compress it . . . Are they spring loaded to return to zero lash undo load no load? This is all bizarre to me.
I thought I would just pop'em in with shot of oil in each hole which drains out through the head oil galleries to he pan.
When everything is back in order I will pull the spark plugs and the fuse on the fuel pump and crank the engine till the oil pressure light goes out to get everything oiled up. Dry lifters should pump up before harm, right?
Am I missing something?
