Default Replacing Clutch in a 96 GSX

Hi all, I've been a member here for awhile now, but just recently aquired my latest DSM which is a 96 GSX. Here's my situation, this is my first 5 speed car, and well during the second night I had the car, the bushing on the end of the shift cable came out and scared the crap out of me, I though I just blew an AWD transmission. Anyway, once the problem was discovered I used a ball bearing out of a skateboard wheel to fit perfectly in place of the old bushing, and it works great. Here's my problem though, when the shift cable did break it left the car in 3rd gear, and that's how I had to get the car home, ...can you smell that clutch burning at each stop light or what!

Well, after all that the clutch seemed ok, but after I took the car to the track for the day I have noticed it's just different, not grabbing as it used to, so what I was wanting to know was how hard it was to replace the clutch on a 2g 96 GSX, and how long it usually took?

Thanks.

5-7 hours if you havnt done it before.

If you do end up changing it, change it with an ACT2600 with a full face disc <--- thats important. remember to take it easy for the first 300 miles... that means no hard launches... no hard shifts... nothing at all.

Is that the best clutch I can get? If there is one better I don't mind puttng down a little extra cash for a little more quality.

When i was selling the gs i had needed a new tranny i could pull and put in a new tranny in about 3hrs. I have a gst now and the only difference as far as removal is some IC pipes and in your case a driveline. Here is a link for a general idea of what it consist of this is not a write up for your car just one i threw together for a gs. http://dsm.regulatepaintinc.com/1gnatp.html
