So i recently bought a 97 eclipse from a guy. It has problems and every mechanic around here seems to be half retarded. I took it to aamco, it was in the shop for 2 weeks, (dont ask why i took it there) and they told me my engine was blown because the compression test proved low on the 3rd spark plug. Turns out, when i looked in the engine, the hose from the turbo to the intercooler was off. SO my current problems, are that my car backfires at high rpm's, im guessing this is due to the fact that my spark plugs are both oil and fuel fouled. I blow A LOT of black smoke when I drive, guessing this is from running rich...Also the wiring harness to the engine is just a spider-web mess. But before i deal with that, i just want it to run normal and be able to handle high rpms, and no black smoke would be nice. So do you think it could be that i just need an o2 sensor? And then get new spark plugs? Or could it be something more like cracked valves or something of that nature. Any help would be appreciated.

 

black smoke is probably burning oil from the blowby on the 3rd cylinder because the rings are f*cked.
