Shifting Question?

is it normal for all eclipses to be able to move the shifter from the fifth position left and right? to clearify, i mean i can move it over 3rd while i am in 5th, then i can press the clutch down move the shifter streight down, and it will go to 4th. i kno i sound crazy but can you help me out?

You mean the shifter can be pushed left and right while in fifth gear. Yes that is normal.

well yes, te, side to side play is normal, but to be able to put ur shifter all the way over the third gear position from fifth gear? that seems a little excessive...

dude 3rd gear is right next to fift. All that means is once hes in fifth he can move it over the middle. Thats what i got anyway

i know that it's right next to it, but i didnt think there should be that much play in it, o well

i kno it sounds odd, but if i could make a vid of it i would. but ihave driven many other cars b4 and it was never this much play in it. its just really wierd.

the worst play i have ever seen was in my old tiburon. That thing was aweful. While in gear you could go from 5th to 1st from the play. It was retarded. So i dont think this is anything to worry about. I know my old talon had a good ammount of play in it.

That's a lot of shifter play. It sounds to me as if your shifter linkage bushings and the bushings on the shifter plate are worn out.
