Orginally I got a pacesetter from ptuning.com for 80 bucks or so. It was a improvment from the stock on with shorter throws and it was 2 inches shorter then the stock shifter but It has a bit of play b/c a screw dictates the stiffness of the throws. After a bit It would come lose. So I threw 2 lock nuts on the screw on the shaft with some red locktight. After a while I was bord with it and took my stock shifter and chopped it down to 3 inches long. That was super short , but the throws were still long. I was happy with that untill I snapped it in half banging 4th gear. Then I chopped the pacesetter to 1 1/2 inches and I am currenely using that. Its nasty short with short throws, I wouldent trade it for the world. The reason the stocker shifter snaps when you chop it and weld it is because its a hollow tube where the pacesetter is solid steel. Match that shifter up with a weighted shift ****, some sihfter bushings from machv.com, and a ss cluch cable line and my car now feels like a real sports car.

any time you decrease the shifter throw, you are going to increase shift effort. if you want it for racing and fast shifting, it wont be worth it because it wont help much at all. its actually easier to shift with a stock shifter. If you want a shifter for a sportier feel, then id reccomend the B &M short shifter, its the only quality piece out there for 2gs.

No matter what you decide, you should get polyurthane shifter mount bushings. Theyre about $10 and will make you shifter feel rock solid, a much bigger improvement than getting a new shifter.

Im driving one right now with a short shifter in it and its fun as hell... But I could go through the gears a lot easier with the stock one... Mayb its because I havnt had the short shifter very long and im not use to it..

I agree that the gears are easier to get into but since I have had my short throw I can bang gears with out grinding... example, keep foot all the way down on the gas, tap cluch pedal to release the gear lock and throw it into gear. At first it thought it was really bad for the tranny but I changed the tranny fluid two weeks ago (first time changing the oil since I ahd the car, about a year) about 3 little metal flakes came out, and that was about it.

Deff go fo the shifter bushings, I highly reccomend them, once I got my short thow they riped to pices.

the b&m is worth it. you get the adjustability between two different settings...30% & 50% i beleive.
