Default are smoked lights legal ?

I am apoligize in advace if this was posted but i coudlnt find it so here my question. Are smoked tail light legal I live in NY so maybe that might help. thanks .

As long as the light is more than 50% visible through the smoke, than yes.
Thats actually mentioned in the window tint laws.

i saw some smoked film that is applied to the lights but i dont know if its legal its said 35 mil something i really cant rember

Heres a pick of my tails... i used this Nightshade spray can that i got from Summit Racing... I didnt completely black them out, but it still looks good and plenty of light shines through them... (pay no attention to the fugly rear bumper, it seemed like a good idea at the time)

I used to live on Long Island, I had smoked out tails on a 3G and a (Ecchhh...) Civic... I never had a problem there.
