I want an Eclipse, in the 95-99 year range, I believe it's 2nd or 3rd gen. Would it be cheaper to buy a GST that already has turbo or buy a RS or GS and install the turbo myself? The turbo kit is around $300 it seems like.

OK 95-99 are 2nd gen (2G) 2000+ are 3g

Now It would be to your benefit to just buy a GST or GSX from the begining. NO turbo kit will EVER cost only $300 not even a turbo upgrade for a car that already has one. If you were to buy a full turbo kit for a GS\RS your looking at around $3000 or more just for parts. then another close to $1000 for labor then you may need some new internals(pistons maybe rods)..its just not worth it at that point

Trust me I went out to turbo my 2000 GS bought all the parts that I peiced together so it was a bit cheaper and I spen close to $3000 and never installed it. I just desided to sell the car and I now have an EVO. If I had that $3000 dollars to spend here I would be running low 12s maybe even 11s(Tuned for 22 PSI). and my GS with every thing and drag radials I would have been lucky to hit low 13s( tuned for 10PSI)

 

thanks for the info, I used to be a domestic fan, and still am actually, but I can't afford the assurance or gas/expenses for my camero so i am selling that. I have always had a passion for tuner imports, mainly Mitsu. Eclipses because of their body design, cost, availability, and ability to upgrade. I ment 3000, not 300 for the turbo, my fault. I have about 7,000 bucks to spend on it, maybe a little less. I am really hoping to buy a 2nd gen eclipse already with a body kit and has been repainted for about 5,000 or so. that leaves 2,000 dollars for upgrades, engine and looks. I am more about style and looks then performance, but I don't want some p.o.s. that just looks "nice".
