Default Tail light question

I have a 1999 eclipse and it has been setting up for a few months. battery had gone dead. tried to charge it up and had noticed that when I connected the battery charger, the tail lights came on and stayed on even though the tail light switch was turned completely off. when I disconnect charger, lights go off. can someone help me figure out why this is happening? thx

You probably already fixed your problem, but maybe it is your brake light instead of the tailights that are on. If that is the case, you could check your brakelight switch. Cheers
