Default Tires and Rims

Hello i am new to this forum so im not sure if this is where to ask the question but we will see. I have just purchased my 96 eclipse base model over the fall. I believe it is lowered and has 17" low profile tires. As I am from Syracuse NY we now have snow on the ground and I need to get some snowtires for it. could any one tell me what size tires and rims I should get. I know very little about rims. I am currently thinking about buying a set of 205 / 70 R15 They are from someone not a store. assuming that the bolt pattern is the same would thesefit? If any one could give mesomeadvise on rimand tire size for my Eclipse that would be great. Thank you.

Check out tirerack.com they have a lot of different brands and tons of reviews. Its a pretty good website and tires are pretty cheap too.

205/70's might be too big for a lowered car! It should be somewhere around 205/55/16's for the stock tire size...I would just store the car for the winter and buy a winter beater and drive that for a few months until it gets nice again and break out the Eclipse about the beginning of May...that's what I do with mine....Otherwise, raise your car back up and go with stock rims and tire size if you want to put winter treads on it....the problem with running yours in New York in the winter is that it's lowered and you're gonna be plowing snow and not going anywhere with it sitting that close to the ground.

Well it depends if you are getting a GS or RS
GS is this size stock:205/55-16
RS is this size stock:195/70-14

The GS has 16" rims stock and the RS has 14" rims stock (that is what the last number indicates)

So if your friend has the tires mounted on rims then they are on 15" rims and the differences are as follows:

If you have stock GS rims then the winter tires will be the same width but an overall 4.46" taller (2.23" on each side of the tire)
If you have stock RS rims then the winter tires will be .39" wider and 4.87" taller.

I would say that those tires will not work, especially on a lowered car.
