Actually,it's for fitment issues.A lot of bigger turbos have a hard time fitting down in our bays. It's alsofor heat. A lot of true 3" downpipes/ o2 housings come too close to the alternator and fry it, same with the oil filter. This gets the dp and o2 further away from these parts. There are other benefits too, these are just a few.

you gotta think of how close the turbo is to the block, which becomes a clearence issue after you go so big, and also i noticed on my 1g the 3" exhaust is gonne end up about 1/4" away from the oil filter, thats a really bad thing to heat up -remote mount for me....

true except that you CAN fit the 35r in the eclipse pretty easily and alot of companies already make a normal kit. Its the same thing with the EVO. They first have the normal mounted 35r kit and then they came out with the top mount kit. I really dont see much of a gain for fitament. I still say its 90% for looks.

so its for looks. because the turbo is placed further away from the radiator than it would be with a regular manifol... look at my 50trim it almost touches same with the wastegate. cause top mounts on I4 FWD\AWD looks dumb anyway unless its like a 37r or bigger on there
