Hey guys. I want to ask you all with gst's, that are running a evo 16g settup with max boost and other basic mods, If you have problems with traction. If you dont know i have a 95 gst, stock mostly ( greddy bov, no cat, cannister exhaust, intake, lowering springs, and a surprisingly strong engine for 180K miles). Im seriously debating whether or not to make a money pit with my car, or..... buy an evo IIV, or 350z and dump an insane amount of cash into it. Im getting a little pissed with the " Eclipse Curse", where everything in the engine bay breaks down but the engine. I mean really, cavaliers hold up better. But i do like having an inexpensive hoby car.

Im just looking for some input on what you guys think/recommend. If i owned a gsx i wouldnt ask all these questions.

 

how about some better rim/rire combo...
i have 18x8.5 ( 255/40-ZR18 )on my 97 GSTw/ all the basic mods with coilovers, cat delete, rear muffler delete and exedy clutch.
1st is a pain to keep traction in, but in second you can keep traction if you can play with the throtle... lead foot is not gonna help you keep traction, lauch hard (and hope it sticks), and when wheel spin is and issue back off a bit and then try again.
but like i said, if you have a stock rim/tirecomb i would sugest going to something with a bit more width for traction.

anyways ihave a long list of stuff that i have in mind and the first thing for summer is a set of steelies and slicks.
going fast is not cheap... how fast do you want to go ????

 

Sweet man. I think 360 is enough with the evo 16g, i can already bust v8's and untuned honda's with t3/t4 setups easly. Would an lsd help a lot?

 

yes it would,
but its cheaper to upgrade rim/tire combo and hella lot easier to install too !!!

for an lsd install you would require to drop the tranny and split it apart install the LSD and then while youre in there (if you havent done it ) light weight flyheel, stage 2 or3 clutch and pressure plate and new throwout bearing... yes it can get very costly this way,
but even ifits done right you would still fight for traction due to a small contact patch.
thats the way to go if you will be going big in the future.

Anything over like 280 and you have traction issues up the ***. The 16g can run upto 380... so yeeaah you would.

Invest in a GSX bro : )

 

didn’t see it along with tires a strut bar will also do a LITTLE difference they are made to keep the unibody from folding in and to keep the tries more level under a lot of stress.

 

its just one of the downfalls of having a FWD car. Not much you can do about it. Your always gonna have traction issues
