Default turbo

aight im new to the dsm world and turbos, but i test drove a gsx today and when the car started there was a tick but after idling for about 5 minutes it abruptly stopped. another thing is when accelerating hard and makin boost it stuttered really bad like the ignition was cuttin out. is this normal? it has the stock turbo, as for mods it has light weight flywheel, new clutch, catback exhaust, downpipe, rebuilt trans. thanks

they tick a little when it needs an oil change or tick when crankwalk is coming. (but crankwaly is if you have the clutch pressed down and you hear the tick) a trow out bearing will tick lightly when you let of the clutch as well.

the turbo should make any studdering sound nor should the car feel that way, sounds like spark plugs are bad same thing happend to my buddies AWD TSi and when the pluggs and wires were change it drove great. (his only studdered if the car was floored completely) Id start with a good tune up for that thing and go from there

I have also hear of cases where the throw out bearing is bad sounding when you have a lightend flywheel, it has been described as a marble rolling around in the tranny type of a sound , but im not sure if eclipes do that one I know it happens to MKIV supras

It sounds like the ticking you are describing is lifter tick, usually from low oil pressure, cold weather, or worn lash adjusters(they leak and need to fill back up, so it causes lifter tick)

How bad does it stutter? Like your hitting a wall or just a hesitation?

all dsms like to make lifter tick noises when they get older, in most cases it is not bad. some people like to upgrade to 3g lifters just to get rid of the sound, but if it gets quieter after it warms up i wouldnt be concerned. cw tick is only going to be heard when the clutch is depressed

this is just like my post. "stuttering" my gsx, goes to 4k and hesitates and wont go farther ONLY if i mash it. but if i ease into it, im ok, i DO have the leak in the Oil Filter and Oil Filter Adapter. next, it happens right as boost starts.

It sounds like a marbal in a soda can shaking around, whe you depress the clutch and the sound stops... its a throw out bearing.
