Default Turboing the 420

Well i finally got my ex car sold, and the money from that sale put me to about $2500. Now before i really do anything else to me RS i really wanna get the turbo bought and intalled. Me and my dad can install it ourselves but i'm having trouble finding a suitable kit that comes with everything(I kinda need an Intercooler because i live in Vegas and it does get hot here) and has a decent shipping price, Anyone got any help for me?

you would need an intercooler anyways. is your bottom end rebuilt yet? you will need to get forged internals first or else anything over abou 4-5psi will shoot a rod and cause you more problems than you need. so that would be a good start. as for turbo kits check out www.hahnracecraft.com, www.conceptillusions.com, www.treadstoneperformance.com, and www.turbokits.com. they all make 420a turbo kits or you could make your own you can get a turbo manifold off ebay for like 250 i think and get a decent turbo and begin piecing it together. also the SRT-4 turbo will directly bolt up to the 420a block. if you need anymore help let us know.

I read in a lot of places that you don't need to strengthen the bottom end to run low boost and a stage 1 turbo, i really don't think i have enough money to do all that.

But, how much do those SRT-4 turbos cost?

Okay, i spent a while looking up all those sites you listed and the Treadstone performance one seems like the best power value and so on. Has anyone istalled this kit before? is it good? can i run it without upgrding rods, pistons, injectors, bearings, etc?

Help pls.

like i said if you plan on running 5 pounds of boost or less you MIGHT be ok.... but 2 things 1 if the boost is to much you ar going to spend a lot more money for another engine than it would cost for pistons and rods. 2) 4-5 lbs of boost isn't much at all... we're talkin 40-50hp mabey. if that's all your lookin for, go for it. if you go to an SRT forum you can get them very cheap like less than 200 bucks, you can get a turbo manifold off of ebay for cheap, and a cheap FMIC kit off ebay also, all you ned after that is a wastegate, bov, and boost gauge. not sure if the stock fuel system would be able to keep up w/ it though. i've never really heard of treadstone i was just researching it and came across it.... but anybody that knows cars knows that tubonetics is a great company.

Wow, thats pretty cheap, i figured it would be a lot more expensive. Hmm, maybe i can afford to buy the treadstone kit, find a fuel system from somewhere else, and buy those rods and pistons. Sound like a good idea? or could i possibley try something else that would keep me under budget.

Oh and BTW, about how much boost can you run using the piston and rod setup mentioned above?

Edit: Don't you need to pull the entire engine out and rip it open to replace rods and pistons? How could a shop only charge you 100 bucks to do that?
