Default Underdrive Pulley Kit

Has anyone here put an underdrive pulley kit in there eclipse and if so, did you notice any difference in HP. I'm thinking of getting one for my 98 eclipse spyder, but only if it will be a noticeable difference.

havent done it, from what i hear they give you about 2-3 hp at the wheels, youd be better off getting a balance shaft removal kit, they are a pain in the *** to install if you dont know what your doin but for the same price as the pully kit you get about 15 hp at the wheels cause the engine doesnt have to turn the whole damn balance shaft.... that balance shaft causes the engine to work a hell of a lot harder than it should have to, if you dont mind the extra vibration while at idle it is a much better buy.....
Note on that - if you do get the balance kit, make sure you get stiffer motor mounts or inserts, cause the extra vibration will have a negative effect on the life and flex of the stock mounts....... i have the stock mounts in my spyder and need new ones soon, cause the tranny mount is causing the tranny to bounce from the very little extra hp from minor mods........ car bounces from idle into first....... and it will help your shifting greatly if you have manual trans........ just stiffens everything up in general so it doesnt move so much.........

Well 1398, i wouldn't go so far as to say that removing the balance shafts gives as much as 15hp. As a matter of fact there were(are) quite a few articles in the VFAQ's that even question the performance benefits of removing the balance shafts. Of course it sounds like it might give a few more hp, removing them removes some drain on the engine, but people liken it to getting a lightened flywheel. It may help the engine rev a little quicker they say, but it won't add any horsepower. I myself can't comment on whether it adds hp or not, i haven't done the mod. But i can comment on the underdrive pulleys. They do make a difference, to me atleast, but not as drastic as you might think. The engine doesn't strain as much with the A/C on, but since i never use it anyways...[:-]. However in normal driving, you can feel a small difference. I dunno, but i don't regret getting the kit

Hey Spyder GS,
what kind of underdrive pulley kit do you have for your car, because it seems that AEM doesn't make any for 95-99 eclipses and for the brands that do, don't seem to make any for the spyder which is a 2.4 liter engine and not a 2.0. I was just wondering because I think it would be a wise investment since I always have the AC cranked up in my car. Thanks,
FatalJRA

The 2.0 liter turbo engine and 2.4 liter engine are basically the same as far as external components are concerned(save for the cylinder heads). You can use any 2.0liter turbo pulley kit on the 2.4 liter spyder engine. I personally have the Unorthodox kit, and i think it's pretty nice.
