Default Wastegates???

When would be a good time to get a wastegate.. Also what IS a wastegate?? I'm about to do a 3" N1 Apexi exhaust w/ a 3" turbo downpipe high flow cat and an Injen CAI w/ a Blitz BOV.. After that would a wastegate be a good upgrade???

wastegate keeps you from overboosting. Its a door that opens up inside your turbo(or externally on an external wastegate) that lets excess pressure escape.

From what I know, i believe with a stock turbo, any wastegate modifications would be a waste of money.

As for a good time to get it...probably when you run a higher boost pressure...someone else will probably answer that part better.

Wastegate is usually part of the turbo most common on internally gated turbos. I wouldn't worry about getting this upgraded as much as dealing with things like an aftermarket boost guage, a better BPV or BOV MBC or EBC, and other upgrades like that.

you only time you would need to upgrade is if you upgrade the turbo and in that case it ussually already comes with an external one. So dont even worry about it

I will ask a question that I have wondered for quite sometime now. I know about wastegates and such but what is with the milimeter situation? I have an internally gated 16g turbo but got the 34mm wastegate which is upgraded from what it was apparently. Why would 34mm be better?

By milimeter their talking about the size of the wastegate door on the inside of the turbo's hot side that lets some exaust gas bypass the compressor wheel... which keeps the boost at a regulated level. Is it better to get a bigger door... always. The bigger your door the more gass you can release, its not like if your door is too big that it will let too much exaust escape becuase the wg actuator can determin how much air can escape. Their does get to a point where its ridiclous though. Most turbos come with a door already properly sized for the turbo with a few exceptions.

Its better because it can stop/pervent boost creep, a bigger door that is, if it was nessciary for someone to put a bigger door in a 16g... no, but it helps.
