OK so this noise has been here ever since I got the car and I finally decided I should fix it. When the car starts from cold, it makes a weird squeel/scratching noise, I am pretty sure it is not the belts, I have heard belts before and this is not like it. the noise goes from when it starts for about 2-3 sec. It does it again if the engine is not all the way warmed up. Any ideas?

 

sounds likes betls to me... have someone sit in the car and turn it on while you look under the hood and watch the belts...

 

I know exactly what your talking about.

Thats what the GST did right before the starter went. Its possible it could be a belt but it really sounded like the starter.

Can you record it just so i know that its what im thinking about?

No not really hard. But you will need to remove the wheel and jack the car up

 

my car has the same problem. when it started, it squeels. checked the belt and replaced them. it was all good and quiet then this one time i made a sharp left and it started squeeling agian. ever since then, it squeels, but at random time. sometimes it squeels, and sometimes it doesn't. haven't figure out whats wrong.

 

Nots not a squeel though. Its kind of a grind sound... but its not... its hard to describe without having a recording.

 

project, could ur belts not be tight enough? check that, same thing happened to my old rs, i tightened them "wrong", and it kept on squealing

 

I agree with sebba, it sounds like the starter. Mine made a similar grinding noise when i first started it in the morning, after that it wouldnt do it again unless it sat for a while. I replaced the starter and it hasnt done it since.

 

hmm my belts r pretty tight...nothing seems wrong, but i just dont know whats wrong at all...maybe i should change the starter like what u guys said
