Default wierd smell

Everytime i rev high my car smells wierd like burnt cookies. I have a 2000 eclipse GT V6. I know that my head leaks a little but i dont think that it is leaking enough for me to smell the burned oil. Does anyone else have this same problem? I was also wondering how you guys shift.(i.e. Shift first at 5,000 rpm) and please let me know what kind of eclipse it is, cause my shifts will prolly be a little different then a GSX or a GST. Thanks!!

I usually shift somewhere between 3-6k, depending on how hard im accelerating, and I never experienced any odd smells while accelerating.

Is it just when you rev or when you rev and shift? Burning clutch can smell like burnt cookies....really nasty burnt cookies...like oatmeal or....well...some other kinda bad cookie. Not like those oatmeal cream pies, but just plain oatmeal cookies...

I say he should just stay outta the kitchen if he's burning the cookies... As for when you shift... I myself listen to the engine and shift when IT tells me to(Depending on my driving mood of course) If I'm being aggressive (Like I usually am) I shift fairly close to redline if not slightly into redline. If I'm feeling conservative I'll shift around 3K (But then again I have a Sentra that's standard my Eclipse doesn't run and is auto)So of course weight and power will factor into the mix. Listen to the engine though. You'll KNOW when she's at her peak for shifting when you hear a definate change in pitch that sounds like she's not pushing anymore but laboring to go faster (Does that make sense??) No 2 cars are exactly the same for shift patterns I don't care what anyone says about that even if the car is the same make and model they may be CLOSE but never the same due to different break in periods and HOW they were broken in. The best advise I think you could get from anyone here on this topic would be to learn the feel of the engine and just learn to feel when any car wants to shift. Dont' go by some Joe that says he ALWAYS shifts at 5K or some shyt like that.

As for the weird smell... Clutch usually smells similar to burning brakes if I'm not mistaken. I have NO idea what would smell like burnt cookies...Maybe power steering or brake fluid?
