My mom has an '03 eclipse gt v6. the neutral light is flashing when she cranks it, and it starts and stops in 3rd gear, and wont shift up or down. Please, if anyone has any suggestions please help.

 

Its in failsafe "limp in" mode when it does that. Its designedthat way so that you wont be stranded whle minimizing furtherdamage. Take it in and have it diagnosed.

I too, am having the same issues. from what I have found from tearing down the transaxle, the oil pump in the transaxle ingested a piece of a wave spring from the internals of the trans. when it did that, the loss of pressure caused the Overdrive plaetary set to shell out. I bought a used transaxle and had the very same limp home mode. from what I have found, there is internal leakage between overdrive and one of the other clutches, no matter how you color it, I'll probably have to replace the transmission again. not what I wanted to hear, but at least I know the PCM, solenoids and speed sensors are all fine. I'll post more when I find out. Hope this isn't your case.
