2000 Eclipse GT, 135,000 miles?
Hi everyone, I am in the market for a used car and have been looking at the eclipse. I found a guy on craigslist selling a 2000 gt automatic with aftermarket exhaust for $4500. The only problem is it has 135,000 miles on it. He is the 2nd owner i believe but he has kept it in good condition it seems.
So my question is how reliable is the engine and transmission on these?
If i can talk him down to $4000, is it a good deal?
How much is it to replace the engine or trans if something were to go wrong?
what are some common problems that I should check out before hand?
Thanks.

Carfax it to make sure everything is proper.
$4,000 might be a great deal, or it might not. Depends on the condition, how it runs, etc.
To replace the engine or tranny if something went wrong would cost more than the car is worth. If you're even thinking about this, move onto a car with less milage.
Tell the owner you are serious about buying the vehicle and ask if it would be ok to have your mechanic take a look at it to check it over. Some sellers will agree, some will not.
