Default 2000 Eclipse RS Rattling

hey, i just started hearing a loud rattling sound coming from the back of the car whenever i'm idling. I took a look under and i found this... i think it's a heat shield but it rusted itself off of the clamps so it was just sitting on the exhaust pipe. is this neccesary in the location it's in or should i not bother to put it back on???

Heat shield not necessary I wouldn't worry about it.

Exactly it'll warm the floorboard up a little more than normal but it's nothing to really worry about too much. If you really want to test it just let the car sit for a while running and keep touching the area that is above where the missing heat shield is. If it starts feeling too warm shut the car off let it cool and find a way to tac the shield back on. But I don't think you'll have a problem. Remember the car won't be sitting running for long periods you'll be driving it. Causing airflow over both the pipe and the underside of the floorboard. Thus sweeping heat back way from the car and cooling everything to some extent.
