Default 2000 gs headlight problems

I have a 2000 GS, and aprox. every 3 months i burn out the headlight bulbs. I have done some research and the survice manual says to use H4 but the internet says that H4s and 9003s are the same bulb. I have checked the voltage at both bulbs and it's the same as battery voltage. this is getting to be expensive. if any one has any ideas on whats causing them to burn out so fast please help. i don't even put on 1500 miles during that time.

check for any openings in the wires maybe water is getting to them and shortingout your bulbs.

that would be my guess, is you have a shorted wire somewhere causing it to overload on the bulbs. I would also check the fuse too, make sure you have the right fuse in there.

Question for you. Is the blub going out or turning dim? The reason I ask is that I had a 2000 GT and my left blub turned "brown" so I changed both blubs to the Brite blue white blubs. Two months later the left side went dim again. I found out that the wireing for the headlights on the 2000's was faulty and alot of them had the "brown" light. If U just reach down and wiggle the socket the blub will come back on. I think it was a recall for this problem you should call nearest Mitsubishi Stealership and give them your vin they will let you know. on the brite side this defect will allow your fogs to work with out headlights if you disconnect the black wire on the left bulb. (lol)

The bulb is burnt out, i can see the broken filament. all the wiring is ok. About 7 months ago i had to replace the sockets that the bulbs pluged in to. they had melted. I don't know if the daytime running lights are just the low beams but they are in my car. i live in canada were it's law to have daytime running lights. I will try to contact my local dealership on the recall, hope thats the problem then

just to ask a dumb question, but are you touching the glass when you put the bulb in?? because if you are the oil from your fingers greatly reduces the life of the bulb

No, i don't touch the glass, i even use the latex gloves when i put them in so the oil doesn't touch the lense if i did acadently touch the lense, and it's not a dumb question
