Default 2002 Wheels

The temperature hit 50 today and took a trip over to my wife's 2002 4 cyc, 5spd manual, Spyder (81,000 miles) that's been storage since early December. Thought I'd see if it would turn over and son of a bitch if it didn't fire right up. So what the hell, off we went (me and the car) for a little drive.

But one thing I noticed, what I thought was dirt on the wheels, (rims and around the nuts) seems to be more like corrosion. What would be the best way to bring the wheels/rims back to a respectable condition. And if that fails what alternatives would one suggest.

It's a nice condition car and would like to keep it up. Thanks.

If this is a stupid question please forgive me cars aren't my specialty.

Alloy wheeos? Chrome wheels? Steel sheels? Each type would require a different approach to refurbishing. You tube has tons of how too videos for wheel restoration.

Alloy?
Yes, alloy. If it is just surface dirt, you can probably get some alloy wheel cleaner, I know mcguires makes a kit thatb has a brush you mount on a drill. If it is corrosion that has eaten into the metal itself, more drastic measures may need to be undertaken.....involving sandpaper and lots of elbow grease.

Here's a video I found.
