Default 2005 eclipse gs 2.4 liter won't go past 6400 RPMs. Need help please?

So I have a 2005 eclipse gs with the 2.4 liter. It is the 5 speed manual, when I am driving it is fine no loss of power, but when I really step on it and gets into the redline around 6400 RPMs it kind of bogs down/loses power and no matter what I do it will not go past 6400 RPMs. My RPM gage goes all the way to 8k. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?
