Automatic transmission filter location, 2005 eclipse GS

Automatic transmission filter location, 2005 eclipse GS
I removed the auto transmission pan (oriented in the vertical position) to replace the transmission filter which I had purchased from advance auto and was could not find the filter. There was a bank of solenoids but no obvious location for the filter. The filter kit provided a gasket that fit the pan so I removed the correct pan. Any ideas?
