Default CAI

Hey I Just got my 2001 GT about 4 weeks ago and I'm starting to do some small mods. I wanted to install a CAI but I've been having trouble deciding what to buy. I really don't want to spend 200 dollars on an AEM or K&N and I wanted to know if anyone has anything that is cheaper and just as effective. Maybe a JDM intake with K&N filter? let me know

an intake is a pipe and a filter that is all.... My EVO has a home made intake that looks like something I paid $$$ for

Theres only one problem with home made on a 3G I was going to do that but I was told that if I took off the mass air sensor that the ECU would need to be upgraded and would cost just as much as AEM or K&N. I'm not sure that if you take the sensor off it won't mess anything up but I don't want to break any thing. Let me know how it goes, and if it works good.

You need to leave the Mass Air. But i woudnt cheap out on an intake because those home made ones are most often a peice of crap. And make even cause more harm than good.

The EVO uses MAS too. I have it on there still. You cant take the sensor off the car wont run. In order to remove it without trouble you need a stand alone ECU which is a good $1000+. So you can make home made intakes for the car. I have had 2 3G eclipses I know all about them. And the EVO is not too much different other than the motor being turbo and all that

here is my intake...you can clearly see the MAS on there

simply put, don't cheap out on an intake. if you get some some no name intake for 4.00 on ebay that's exactly what you'll get out of it. to get the full hp gain you are looking for you need to spend the money. search ebay for somebody trying to get ride of one, you can prolly pick it up for 100 or cheaper.

lol that is the biggest load of crap.. The more money you spend on your CAI the more HP you get from it..lol Exactly what EMonz57 said, its a pipe with an air filter on the end of it. But now im sure you'll go into the big $$ ones spent so much time and reasearch on which bend recreates the most HP and all that. Prolly not...they put it were they could get it to fit while keeping it as straight as possible. I've also heard the material in which they are made from makes a difference which to me is a load of crap too.

the only trouble on cheap intakes is on the 3G 4G64 GS\RS motor because the intake manifold is weak and cracks if it is not supported the proper way (I know from past bad experiences, I cracked 3 manifolds on my GS)
