Default first time owner and feeling a little upset.

So I just recently purchased a 2001 GT and aside from already having to change a wheel hub, strut, valve cover gasket and axle I just recently started hearing a knocking noise coming from my engine. I coasted in to the repair shop with barely any oil because apparently the leak was just that bad and the previous owner did nothing to fix it. The most I could do was throw a quart in and hope I made it. But now I have this knocking and some buddies at work said that it may be a rod going out. When I am sitting idle o do not hear it. When I rev of the engine in park I notice it real well and when I'm driving I hear it very slightly. Does anybody know what the problem may truely be if they have been in the same situation. And if it is the rod what may be the best route to go about fixing it and how much it may cost. And help would be greatly appreciated.

get someone who knows what they're about. "knocking" could be anything - from your friend's suggested but useless "rod". (wrist pins or big end bearings), to valve train, to a cracked pulley.

running out of oil is liable to blow heads and bearings.
