Default Incredibly loud noise

Hi all -

First post here, before you guys jump to conclusions, I used the search feature and did not the find the answer to my questions.

I have a 2001 v6 GT with 80k miles and automatic (with tiptronic) transmission.

As of the past season (recently), every time I accelerate or pass over 3-4k RPM, I hear a HUGE vibration in the what *seems* to be the center front dash. It does not sound like it is coming from the engine, but again, I am not sure. It is very loud and usually lasts until the car shifts back into a lower RPM range. I don't really know into what gears this happens, but I am thinking gears 1-3. This does NOT happen every time I change gears, but once in a while or when I am more aggressive with the car.

I tried accelerating in neutral and the noise is not there. I am not sure what that is indicative of. However, I want to stress that the vibration is really loud...approx 80-90db.

Another question/problem I have is that I hear a rattling noise from what *appears* to be the front right wheel. The rattling isn't loud, and sometimes just sounds like a dull whistle and is constantly making that noise. Not sure what this may be.

Again guys, keep in mind I am not car savvy and would greatly appreciate any insight you guys may have regarding these problems.

Cheers,

EDIT: I also have an Injen CAI (not sure if that is a problem [I don't think it is])

My first thought is have your motor mounts checked out. These cars have weak motor mounts and they break. My 01 had a broken mount and it had a vibration and rattles. At first I thought it was bad struts/shocks or something but it turned out to be one of the motor mounts. FWIW At the time I was just buying the car it also had very close to the same milage as your car. The dealer fixed the issue for me so I cannot say which mount was the cause
