Default Lifter Noise?

My wife has a 2000 Eclipse GT. This winter I noticed when she started her car that there was alot of lifter noise. The noise would go away after about 10 seconds or so. Sounds like one or more lifters collapsed. If would only do it when the car sat over night. Once it was started and driven everything seems ok. I believe it's the lifters in the head that sits against the fire wall. I've replaced spark plugs before in this car. It's no big deal to remove the intake manifold. I've changed spark plugs before in this car. The oil level is full. from what I'm reading the 3rd generation 6g72 has the 3mm oil hole lifters in it. How hard are these to change? If there is a problem will I have to change the associated rocker arm? According to my Cheltons mannual they should be replace as a set. Can I just buy the lifters seperately? Also, is it possible that I'm hearing some piston slap? And lastly, is there a good right up on how to do this? Sorry for all the questions. I'm new here but this is our 2 Eclipse. We had a 91GS model and owned it for 9yrs. It had 145000 on it when we traded it in for the 2000 Model. It has 123000 on it. I did let the dealer put the timing belt in last month. Thanks. Pearl02

Default RE: Lifter Noise?

its just normal lifter tick that happens in these cars. There really is nothing to worry about. Usually changing the oil will reduce the noise a bit if its something that bothers you, but mechanically wise there really isnt anything to worry about.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm beginning to wonder if some of it is the oil filter that I'm using. I'm not sure if the filter has the anti-drain back valve built into it. I can't remember which filter I bought this time around. It's due for a oil change soon and I will check it. I'm more of a Ford guy. I own a 02 MustangGT and 95 Mazda B-4000 Xtra-cab(Same as a Ford Ranger). This is the second Eclipse we've owned. Pearl02.
