Default New here w/ a 2003 Eclipse RS! And a P0303 code... :(

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS with just over 100,000 miles on it. I just had the timing belt and water pump replaced, drove the car home, and there were no problems at all.

A few days later I decided to replace the spark plugs and plug wires. When I was removing the plugs I noticed that they were partially submerged in oil. I figured it was no biggie, and I would just replace the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals the following day.

I installed the new plugs, started the car, and it was running REALLY rough and seemed like it was missing pretty badly. The service engine light came on and the car was throwing the "P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected" code.

I did some searching online and found out that the P0303 code is a pretty popular code to get if you need new spark plug tube seals, which I planned on replacing anyways. So I replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals (which seemed rather “crushed” and not pliable at all, so they definitely were due to be replaced). I also left the battery disconnected for a few hours so the ECU could reset.

I started the car back up but there was no different and it was still throwing the P0303 code. I figured I might’ve fouled one of the new plugs since I installed them before the new valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals were installed. So I went out and bought new plugs, installed them, and disconnected the battery instead so the ECU could reset again. I started the car again and am still getting the P0303 code.

What else could cause this code? Could I possibly need new coils? And if so, how would then go bad when they were perfectly fine before I changed the plugs and wires? It just seems really odd… I never thought in a million years that doing something as simple as changing the spark plugs would make my car not run. UGH! Help? L
