I have the same problem with an 01' GT, i guess mine started making the ticking noice this winter. it does go away after it warms up, but also if you turn your car and once you hear the ticking turn it off and turn it right back on the ticking is no longer there...im not so sure if that should make me less or more worried but i have tried taking it to a mechanic and of course it wont do it while im there

That sounds like the throw out bearing. The wife's car does the same thing. Sounds like a diesel engine. Pearl02.

I have a ticking too with my 2003 GTS... when I push the cluch in, the tick goes away... not sure what it is, but planned to have it looked into ASAP.
My first response went for this posible problem. Pearl02.

It is def the TOB. it is a common thing in the 00-05 Eclispes. I had it on 2 of my 3 eclipses the reason the 3rd didnt it because it is an auto. nothing mitsu can do about it either

Old threads are awesome lol...especially when your own problem wasn't solved in anything above...no sense startin an entire new post with a similar title lol.

I have the same problem on my 04 GTS...but its not the throw-out bearing and its not the lifters...I traced the ticking back to a little black vaccum cylinder on the intake manifold...dunno what it is...not too familiar with the V6 lol.

Check youre belts, I have an '03 gs eclipse and it does the same damn thing, I haven't had it looked at yet and it's been doin it for a good year now, I really haven't researched it but the car hasn't stopped working so it can't be that bad and I have 64k on my eclipse. And changing the type of oil you use really won't do anything. I've always used synthetic [Penzoil Platinum] and it hasn't stopped the ticking. Take it to a real shop and have it looked at. If it's still under warranty [which it should be, it doesn't matter where or who you bought it from, mitsubishi's warranty is in effect until 50k] I put in mitsubishi's hands.

The EVAP Purge Solenoid ticks quite loudly when it's activated. On the V6, it's on the left side of the engine (facing the engine). You can put your hand on it and feel it tick.

My 00 GT has the same thing, ever since day one of the showroom floor, now at 399000 miles.
If it only ticks when it is cold and for a short peroid of time > 60 seconds, its normal, as oil will settle back in the crank case and needs time to be recirculated.if u'r car ticks all the time and never stops. i'd say there is an issuewith the internals that may be about to rear its ugly head. DONT beat her. the cash goes quick on repairs
