Hi, i have a mitsubishi carisma 1.6 2002 model and just recently it has started to make a ticking noise when first started up in the morning. after a few mins- the noise goes away but this is something that has not happened before and i am not quite sure if i have a problem or not ? can someone please advise me of what this could be.

did it tick for a while and not start over or tick for a few seconds and turn on?

 

Hi, its when i first start the car up there is a slight ticking noise, and when you REV the car up it sounds very similar to the picking noise u get when u are going up a steep hill in the wrong gear.
but the ticking noise goes after a few mins- as if the oil has circulated around the engine. the only thing i am realy concerend about is this has only recently started doing this, so i hope its nothing serious. any ideas i would appreciate.

if it's ticking like that, it could be a low grade fuel. if you dont put correct type of octane in your fuel, theres a high chance your engine will do that espcially goin up hill. i suggest put the correct type of fuel and then try it again. if still tickin what you can do is change your oil and put some lucas oil stabilizer that will put that engine to quite mode and also put some fuel system cleaner and put the correct grade...

 

thanks for that but im sure its not a petrol thing as it only ticks when i first start up and lasts for only a few mins- its a bit like a tappet noise but its strange that it has only just started on a car thats only done 19000 miles. totaly confused every morning as i take the kids to school im listering to see if its getting any worse ?

Lifter tick..... most likly a lifter tick....really annoying but not a real problem

 

Yeah myself I have a ticking problem whenever I press down on the accelerator. Annoying, yeah, but doesn't really bother me at all when I got the music going.
