Default Blank keys?????

Wow!!! The keys with the chip sure cost a lot. Does anyone know if there is a plain key blank that can be cut just to carry in the wifes purse, and/or a hideaway just to open the doors. My wife has managed, on other cars, to leave her keys on the console and lock the doors. I sure wouldn't want to have to get one with the chip in it.

I think you would have to go to the dealer on that one.

im pretty sure you need the key with the chip to work... but maybe not if ur just usin it to open the door :-/... give it a shot, get a blank key cut at sears or something, then if it works get a magnetic "hide-a-key" and stick it under ur car or something

Yes you can get what we call a "dummy key". Just unlocks the doors, doen't start the car. Your dealer should be able to make you one for less than $20.

At the dealers today and stopped in the parts dept. Asked the parts man if there was a plain key blank available. He said "sure, how many do ya want?" No charge even cut them for me. They open the door, but will not start the engine. Just what I wanted. Removed the plastic to make one thinner and gave it to the wife to put in her purse for the time she leaves the keys on the seat and locks the door. Yes she's blond, but I love her to pieces anyway!!!!!

For my first experience in the service dept. it was an A++
