Yes, as stated have tried all the frequencies including the 88's and 106-7's. No luck.

Yes I know. I have tried all 3 FM's on the radio. Not tried the one AM as it won't be there.

Yes, all clear. Only used with corded headphones before getting the cordless from e-bay. The three colour ones are clear, have used them to play a PS2 game console with no problems.

The doors wouldn't be removed without reason so the unit may have been tampered with by whoever was doing the doors. You will see the antenae on the rear side window ( it looks similar to the heater strips on the tailgate)
I'd rather not tamper with the unit in case I make it worse. I have lived without the FM broadcast for a year so I may as well carry on living with it and curse the day I ever bought a car from those cowboy dealers!!

But thanks for your help. You have been more helpful than they ever were.

Actually could the antennae have been disconnected between the unit and the rear side window? Would be the most logical explanation.

The antenna isnt directly connected to the unit, as the doors have been replaced the antenna may not be connected properly - whats your radio reception like? If that good then dont worry about the antenna.

Try pressing the reset button on the unit. page 7 and 22 of the manual
http://www.rosenentertainment.com/pr...s%20Manual.pdf

If your radio reception is good the the problem could be a faulty fm transmitter but given that a number of other people are having similar issues it is more likley to be a software setup/wiring issue.

There is a wiring diagram at this link for the G8 unit
http://www.rosenentertainment.com/pr...%20DIAGRAM.pdf

Do your dome lights come on when the door is opened? If not get the wiring checked

Alternatively and it is more likely that it could be a software issue with the unit being possibly disconnected at some point long enough for the stored settings to be erased. Given the frequency of this problem arising it is unlikley to be a faulty fm transmitter. All of the units seem to have a setup installation menu - see these two units linked below for example and they all seem to have the capability of running an external transmitter so you could have the unit thinking its transmitting though an external fm transmitter when the speaker sound button is pressed. Try either of codes them to see if you can acces the software setup

see page 14
and see page 7 of this manual

If you cant then contact rosen and ask them to email you the install manual or at least how to switch the FMM (transmitter between external and internal)

best of luck. I'm out of ideas now.

Thanks. I have e-mailed Rosen for advice from the site you quoted. Rather do that than risk messng up the whole thing completely..

Thanks again. I'll report back if I hear anything or if the above works, which I won't have the time to check 'til tomorrow.

No luck, and Rosen's reply wasn't helpful, so I'll just have to live with it as I can't believe you access the set up menu in the way suggested and if that's the only way I'm not going to risk breaking the unit .....

There is a switch on top of the unit , you will need to drop the monitor from the headliner .

Subject: Rosen Z8 DVD System

Hello

I have one of these fitted to my Mitsubishi Grandis.

It is excellent but I am having a minor problem with it.

The FM transmitter does not work (I have tried all available frequencies but nothing is transmitted to the radio). I suspect it may think there’s an external FM transmitter but there is only an internal one. It works fine with the headphoes but the radio wont pick anything up, despite following the instructions correctly.

Unfortunately I cannot access the setup menu to see how to check if is set for an external transmitter which does not exist. The car has had the doors removed before I purchased it so it’s possible the system hasn’t been recalibrated properly.

Can you tell me the code / how to access this menu please.

I refer to this thread for info https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/audio-visual-electronics-21/no-radio-reception-built-dvd-player-grandis-29685/

Thanks

Sorry to hear that.

There are 4 machine screws holding the unit to the headliner. Undoing those is not likley to break the unit but if you dont feel confident doing it then ask your mechanic to do it next time its in for a service. The charge for doing that should be minimal (or free if your mechanics a nice chap) if its being serviced at the same time. Its literally a two minute job. None of the wiring neeeds to be disconnected as you just need to lower it enough to flick the switch. I had to remove the radio and fish out a 2p coin that my 3 year old decided she would like to listen to through the radio, coins slots and kids dont mix well. I left the bulk of the wiring in place and just unplugged the antenna and managed to get the coin out with the help of a tooth pick and some awkward tilting.

I know you said you can live without the sound being broadcast over the speakers but if you really did want loadspeaker sound you could buy battery operated speakers and use a 3.5mm jack to connect them to the wired headphones socket on the dvd player.

hi im new to the forum so sorry for butting in,
have you tried resetting the fmm which can be the issue 90% of the time
when there is no signal getting through!!!
the following steps should allow you to do that,

on remote or unit
1, press eject
2, press enter
3, press info
4, press enter again

the previous sequence needs to be done fairly quicklly,
and some units use a different system so you have to press step 1+2
together and step 3+4, but once that is done it should bring up a sub menu which
allows you to turn on and off the fmm transmitter, you can turn this back on by pressing the sound button which is pictually indicated as a speaker with 2 or 3 sound waves coming from it.

the last step is to press enter and tune your stereo in to the correct frequency,

hopefully this works for you

cheers Z

I bought a cheap plug in battery operated FM modulator on Amazon, plugging this in the DVD headphone socket, and I can tune the radio into the portable modulator.

Cost was £8 ($12) plus batteries!

Obviously a bit scruffy with a modulator hanging off the DVD player like a winnit, but at least it works.

I had the same problem and used the 4 button code as zefran mentioned above. You have to be quick pushing the buttons but i turned it on tuned it in and worked a treat.
