I have an 04 Montero Sport that has 18,000 miles. I have noticed that it has had ticking noises coming from the top of the engine. Not long after I bought it new I noticed the sound. They are not present when first started, but after warming up can be heard. I took it to the dealer who said the noises were normal for that engine. The noises have remained consistent for some time now, but sometimes I notice it more than other times. You can not hear it when driving down the street. I change the oil every 3000 miles. The sound is the same after each change. Is this noise from lifters ticking? Is it a "normal" sound for this engine to make, as the mechanic said? It is still under warranty, should I have the dealer replace the lifters or look into this further? Thanks.

 

Gota love them ticking, should be fine. My 3000gt has a bad tick I found this about a week ago never looked into that much but it seems it worked from the people's posts. http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread....highlight=tick
