I have a 1999 Eclipse GS. I recently attempted to change my water pump but could not get the timiing belt cover off so I put it back together. I also changed the old spark plugs with new pregapped NGK ones. Once I hooked the battery back up and turn the car on it shot immediately up to 3,000 rpms. Then it settled for a second and started to raise again so I shut it off. I am confused on what the problem is as I have never had this problem before with other cars.
