Default 94 eclipse Alternator trouble ! !

We have a 94 Eclipse 1.8

the car will not start. We Checked the starter "tested fine" , then bought a new battery. Still no start. The next morning the battery was dead. So we pulled the alternator and got it checked. It was fine but . . . we noticed there was a wire "possible ground?" not connected to anything at all. We cant find where it goes.
What is this wire for and what does it connect to? Would it stop the car from starting? Could it be the reason the bat is drained overnight?

below is the wire . . .

The wire comes straight off the cluster of connectors that attach to the back of the alternator. srry camera phone pics best i could do right now.

What is this wire ? where does it belong conected to?
We need to get this car running asap. any help would be amazing!

Not necessary man. thanks. There is just allot of people who don't know what they are talking about on forums like these. It's easy to get bad information. Had to be sure.

Well then that would not stop the car from starting. We still have the main problem car will not start ,and battery is drained by morning if its left hooked up. ???wtf?
I have verified that the battery , starter , and alternator are good. Fuses i am pretty sure i checked and are fine as well.
Whats next?
What could i check? The dizzy? hmm maybe thats it i will check it out.
Any other suggestions?

So it dosen't crank? If the starter tested good do you have power at the starter?
