The engine light never stay's on? Is it predictable, so you know when to expect it?

A check engine light means there's a problem BUT If the light flashes- it means that the problem detected is severe enough to cause catalytic converter damage if you continue driving under these conditions. This usually warrants a bigtime and very noticable misfire. Have it inspected asap or you may have more issues to deal with ontop of your misfire. Does your misfire code specify a specific cylinder?

Damit I'm a moron, joel is right....I didn't read your post right. Same thing happens on Toyota's. On very rare occasions this problem can go away depending on how serious it is. The misfire may only have happened once and now that cat can be plugged up and tad and the computer is seeing this through your bank two O2. Its tough to say....How many miles are on your car? or cat for that matter?
