my car (03 eclipse ) started making a funny sound after black smoke came out of the a/c - it is a very brief sound when you press on the gas pedal it makes a sound like: "CHICK" then goes back to normal - this only happens if you press on the gas pedal - what is this? or is it a normal sound that i just have not heard?because you wouldnt know it was there if u were not looking 4 it. this started happening after my a/c just wasnt working and black smoke came out of the vents . - and it still works only when it wants to ? andy suggestions what that "chick" SOUND IS? if you say the word "CHICK out loud thats the sound it makes lorin

 

sounds like the AC compressor clutch kicking in or out.

 

yea, maybe you need to recharge ur a/c with that r-134a stuff

 

Sounds like the a/c is shutting off w/ you push in the gas. As for the black smoke, never heard of anything like that.

 

My mechanic says it is not the clutch on the a/c that is making that sound? any other ideas???

 

Id say it IS that sound. Best way to tell is rev it with the A/C on under the hood and actually look to see if the clutch is cycling to make that noise.

 

Yeah that is a good way to check, idk if I would listen to your mechanic. Try taking it to some other shop and see what they say.
