Default clutch probs

I have a 99 GST with 80k miles on it. Over the past few weeks i have noticed what felt like a lag. I've determined it is a clutch related problem. It feels as if the clutch is slipping but in my experience when the clutch starts to go bad you will smell it and it goes bad FAST! I initially thought it was the clutch master cylinder which i have since replaced. It was a necessary replacement but no fix yet. When I first shift into gear and accelerate the rpms shoot up 500-1k before i seem to catch power.

So here is the question. "Is this infact a bad clutch? If so what would you suggest as a replacement racing clutch"

your clutch usually catches at 500 rpm's? i have to try if i wana do that . floor your car and see if your clutch slips at high rpm's, if its a bad clutch than it will.

on occasion it wont really even slip, does it have any other symptoms than not catching power, and the clutch doesnt nescicarilly wear out to be undrivable that fast, i rode on mine for about 5 months before i got to the point of getting it replaced, i wouldnt recommend that, i just didnt have the money........

by slipping 500-1k rps before it catches i ment for that range of rpms, not necessarily at 500-1k. E.G. - 3.3k rpm's hit gas 3.7k rpm's i feel acceleration, immediately drops to 3.4-3.5k rpms then accelerates normally. the period between 3.3k and 3.7k no noticable accelaration.

If you can suggest a good aftermarket clutch that would be great aswell. I checked the reviews section and there is nothing listed for clutches. Thanks again!

I always reccomend ACT clutches. looks like you have a fairly stock GST so an ACT 2100 would be good for you. The ACT 2600 is a lot stronger but unnessessary for a gst unless you are running slicks and making a lot mroe power. whenever you get a new clutch just make sure to to get new everything: pressure plate, disk, and very important:new throwout bearing. also either get a lighter flywheel(will help you rev up faster) of get the stock one resurfaced.
