Hi all.

I recently bought an '08 eclipse spyder, 4 cylinder, 90,000 miles.

The dealer I bought it from seems to have played me a bit, as I found out the original owners took such bad care of it, lack of oil changes have caused some of the internal engine to start stripping, leaving metal shavings in the oil now. The mitsubishi dealership says I need a new engine block, and they want to charge around 5K for the part/work.

The dealer I bought it from says he can get a friend to help out and get the work done cheap(sketchy, I know) but he says I can get the work done for 500 if I can order the engine, which is a pretty good difference. Problem: the mitsubishi dealership told me that particular engine isn't being made anymore.

I'm looking on car-part.com, and I honestly don't really know what I'm looking for. If the guy was right and the exact engine isn't made anymore, what engine could I order that would work? Any advice is appreciated.

For context, I live in the SF bay area.
