I am currently saving for a new car. My father recently purchased a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse GSX. I like the GSX very much. It is stock. It is also the fastest car i have ever driven. I started researching the eclipse and i also started taking a look at the 3000gt and the evo. The evo is out of my price range. I was wondering if any one could help me decide between the eclipse ( 2nd gen) and the 3000gt (also 2nd gen). I like having alot of acceleration, turbo, and from what i have seen of the GSX , AWD is very nice also. This would at first be a daily driver , and i would absolutly get modified both in performance and styling. If you need any more info let me know. Also what would be the big differences between the two?

 

First off, how much money are you looking to buy a car for?

Secondly, which level of the 3000GT? Base, SL, or VR4?

Thirdly, after buying it, how much money do you want to spend modding it?

 

Say it has 100,000 + miles.... under $10,000. possibly? We got the GSX for 5,000. I do not have a set modding price. I will be keeping this car so pretty much whatever money i have, so the answer to your question is no modding limit. It just needs to stay street legal. The i would want either the GSX or the comprable 3000gt. Turbo, AWD? , good base HP.

 

You'll be wanting a GSX then. The 3000GT VR4 is turbo AWD but expensive even with more than 100,000 miles in most cases. Even some GSXs are past that. But the GSX is also much, MUCH cheaper to modify, and there are many more parts for it.

 

Yes, the GSX my father has is a 1995 with 200,000 miles but it runs like new. We only paid $5,000. I am much more into modding than him. Would it be possible to upgrade the turbo in say a 1995 GSX? Also what other parts would need to be upgraded? What type of turbo? I do want alot of power and i would not mind saving a long time

Yes you can upgrade the turbo in the GSX. Try the actual Eclipse section, there is a sticky section up on top that has a lot of good info. I'll see if I can find some good stuff for you.
