Default 3000GT VS Eclipse

Hey, Im only a 16 year old Sophomore in High School, and I was wondering a few things. I fell in love with the 3000GT about 4 months ago. How come on every forum I look there is only race stories about Eclipses? Wouldnt a 3000GT smoke an Eclipse? Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.

The heavier they are the harder they fall!

I really think the VR-4 would beat a 2nd gen eclipse because the 3000 compensates it weight with its power and 4 wheel steering system. I mean look at the times on both cars and you'll see the 3000 is considerably faster.

I have to agree that it all matters of the year and model. 3000gt's came with 3 different engines... 1~ the all wheel drive vr-4 came with a 300hp twin turbo 3 liter engine. 2~ The "GTO" real 3000gt 3 liter engine that was tuned to put out about 220hp. and 3~ The not so racey 3 liter engine straight from a caravan that only puts out about 151 hp which is not enough to compensate for the 300gt's weight against any model of the eclipse. And then of coarse the turbo charged eclipse's put out about 210 stock and 140 without the turbo in the 2nd gen which are very popular. I've not personally tested the new 2005 eclipse's, and your best bet from 2000-04 would be the GT V6 models.

hahah. thanks. Well, what would win if it was a 3000gt with the GTO engine vs. an eclipse GST? Is the power of the 3000gt enough to compensate for the weight?

It depends if it was the twin turbo GTO engine it would kill the GST, but if it was the N/A 6G72 then most likely the GST. I mean it is a heavier car but has about a hundred more lb ft torque and about 105 more horepower. That more than makes up for 800lbs. If they were both stock the 3000 would win, just look at the times for each car, the 3000GT TT does 0-60 in 5.5sec and the GST does it somewhere in the 6's. The 3000 runs the 1/4 mile in 13.5 and i'm not really familiar with the GST but I think it runs somewhere in the 15-16 sec range. So stock there is not really any comparison(clearly the 3000) but if you tuned both then The GST would probably win because of it's weight.
