Is it a manual or auto? I'm assuming what you call a gearbox is what the US calls a transmission

Tranny = transexual. Nobody ever uses the word tranny when refering to a transmission in the UK.

I've been to London, people say transmission there too? I never said tranny, I said transmission. Stay focused.

m00sie,
I use Redline MTL and MT90 in mine, I would say for a manual "gearbox/transmissions" to use something that meets GL1, GL3, GL4 grades. I wouldn't suggest 75W90 though, unless the local shops recommend a thick gear oil like that. 75W90 is mainly used in rear differentials (or is that called a gearbox too?) and transfercases around here in the US.

nah the rear diff is cool. Gearbox is the most commonly used term out here... but hes from NZ so that dont matter.

Cheers for that info, apparently mitsubishi use castrol vmx GL4. You wouldnt happen to know where id find a "how to" write up on how to get the oil out and more importantly back in?

In regards to the "tranny" debate lol we often refer to an automatic box as a transmission and a manual box as a gearbox. Differentials are differentials everywhere as far as im aware =D

Well, manual transmissions (gearbox) are pretty universal as far as removing, filling, and checking level. There should be a large bolt head facing downwards, that's the drain bolt. There should be a bolt of normal or average size facing forward, that's the fill/level check bolt. It's easier to get to both if you can put the car on a lift (I don't know what you might call it but it's just something that is able to lift the entire car up and high enough for you to get underneath it). If a lift isn't available, then you can use jack stands...just a note though, it's advisable to life all four corners up so that you have a complete drain as the drain bolt may sit right in the middle of the transmission's flatspot. The fill bolt is pretty self explanitory. A note to that too, get a funnel with a long tube that will curve enough to go into the fill hole. I used a hand pump that screwed right onto the bottle and it came with a short hose that fit the hole, I squeezed and it filled, lol.
Hope that helps bud
