HELP 96 eclipse engine problem
I just bought a 96 eclipse. It is leaking oil. The problem is we have no idea what sensor it is leaking from. We thought it was the oil sending unit and bought one and it isn't it (though it is right next to this) but it is larger. I have a 2.0 and the part is on the drivers side rear of motor (bottom) and right below oil preasure sending unit. If anyone has any ideas of what this is please help or if you have a book you can look in you have no idea how much I will appreciate it. I love this car but i hate the leaking oil!

RE: HELP 96 eclipse engine problem
FIRST IS HARD TO DETECT AN OIL LEAK WHEN THERE IS OIL EVERY WHERE FIRST WITH BRAKE CLEANER OR ANOTHER SOLVENT LIFT THE CAR AND CLEAN UP ALL THE OIL AND DRY IT UP WITH A RAG NEXT, START THE CAR AND WACHT FOR THE OIL COMING OUT,IT COULD BE LEAKING DOWN FROM THE VALVE COVER BUT WITH OUT DOING IT THIS WAY IS HARD TO TELL.

RE: HELP 96 eclipse engine problem
CLEANING UP THE OIL ON THE ENGINE WILL HELP LOCATE THE LEAK. HOWEVER IT IS NOT REQUIRED, YOU CAN TELL IF IT LEAKING FROM THE WALVE COVERIF THE ENTIRE AREA IS COVERED WITH OIL. THE MOST COMMON PLACES THAT THEY WILL LEAK FROM IS THE VALVE COVER, OR THE OIL PAN GASKET. CHECK THESE AREAS AND REPLACE THE GASKETS AS NEEDED. BY CLEANING THE ENGINE YOU CAN TELL WHERE IT IS LEAKING FROM BY THE APPERANCE OF FRESH OIL ON THE BLOCK. THIS MAY NOT HAPPEN RIGHT AWAY SO LAYING UNDER THE CAR IS NOT A GOOD IDEA.
