here's what happened..
yesterday, i got my car back from the shop. i had my friend replace the water pump and timing belt, he just couldn't time it.. so i picked it up and it was working great! later i turned my headlights on, and my dash lights wouldn't come on.. it was just a blown fuse, so i replaced it. i drove it for about a mile after that and it was working fine. then my headlights flickered, my dash lights flickered, got dim, and went out, then alll of my interior lights went out and my right turn signal came on and i could smell smoke... i looked and it melted the fuse i had just put in.. so i replaced it again.. now the turning signal is still on. no smoke or anything anymore but what could this be? thx, and sry for such a long post..

Just a thought is the engine firmly grounded to the body. Your problem is identical to one i had on a vehicle years ago. The fix was adding a ground wire.
