Default Import Eclipse - Steering Rack Question

Rather an unusual issue here - hope someone can help!

I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse in the UK bought from a previous owner who imported the vehicle. I need a steering rack for it and Mitsubishi UK want £1500 for a new part. I found a complete remanufactured rack on Rockauto.com but I am not entirely sure if it will fit. This is because they asked if its an American Model or a European Model - in short I dont know. Mitsubishi UK say it was never made for the European market so by default you'd think it was an American model. However, the VIN is not a US VIN - its D32A 6000839.

It seems that this VIN may have been used for the few Eclipses that were made for export to Europe. Internet sources suggest that all Eclipses are made in Normal, Illinois so it would seem as if its an American Model, but not sure if they would class it as European because of the VIN and the fact it was made for "export" - the fact that rockauto said it was the right part for the American model but the wrong part for the European caused me to question my initial assumption but the guy also noted he was not entirely familiar with Eclipses.

The part numbers dont cross reference i.e. the new part from Mitsubishi UK and the A1 Cardone 262106 part on Rockauto and whilst I am tempted to get the one on the net for £360 (inc. shipping) all my attempts so far to simply confirm if this part will fit the car have not provided a definitive answer.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Regards,
Dave
