Default Magna rumble

Hi folks,

Please could you answer a simple question and advise me as to why my Magna S/Wagon 2.6 '91 starts to juder and rumble when the vehicle reaches about 100K's and hour. The whole car shakes and I am worried that it is a g/box problem. The box is auto and has completed about 200,000 k's.
I have overheard mechanics say that I should change the g/box oil or it is the final drive lock ???? that is causing the problem. The car should run and run but your advises would be appreciated.
When we turned the overdrive off this did make a great improvement but the problem is still there.

Thanks for your help.

it may be the tranny but it may also be your alignment at certain speeds. you need to describe your 'rumble' better

Hi there,

Thanks for your response. The car does drive in a straight line OK as you can release your hands from the steering wheel. Possibly the tracking or wheel balance but the car wouldn't go in a straight line (I don't think??)
The rumble is really the whole car shaking. It feels like its going to shake it's self to bits as you can feel it whilst seated in any part of the car. It really does shake quite bad so we either increase or decrease speeds to minimise the shakes.

Please let me know what you think and thanks for your help.

Cheers

Berni

a car can have alignment problems at certain speeds and shake violently without drifting to the left or the right its a possibility.

Thanks for your input there. What would be your course of action if you experienced these symptons then?? Is it worth getting the vehicle alligned i.e. tracking or is it a trany problem. Your advice is greatly sorted.

Thanks
